CURRICULUM


13 WEEKS

Get acquainted with your tools, learn how sculpture theory informs hair design, practice  shampooing, learn about the importance of infection control, first aid and microbiology, practice  forming and styling hair with the use of thermal tools, brushes, and combs, try your hand at  perming and relaxing hair, get introduced to colour services, and start on precision short hair  cutting. 

This stage will introduce you to the fundamental techniques that underpin all the subsequent  stages that follow: 

· Glassbox history & philosophy 
· Shampooing, blow drying and finishing with products 
· Styling and setting techniques 
· Head shape and bone structure assessment 
· Client consultation technique 
· Excellent client care 
· Technical theory 
· Personal appraisal 

Note that after a period of understanding the dynamics of hair, the basic precision cutting skills are  quickly introduced.

10 WEEKS

Practice your precision short hair cutting, clipping, trimming, detailing, fading, and  texturizing techniques on real clients. Combine the use of rollers, pin curls, braiding, and various  techniques to produce a more complex hair service. Learn how to manage professional  relationships, goal setting, building a client base, salon operations and ownership, and how to use  photo, video, and social media to attract clients.

This stage continues the learning process and introduces new cutting and colouring disciplines: 

· Work sessions on all cutting, styling and barbering techniques 

· Recap on blow drying and consultation lecture 

· Continuation of technical theory 

· Color formulas 

· Color charts 

· Continuation of styling and setting techniques 

· Expanding your product knowledge 

10 WEEKS

Learn how to perform wig services, various advanced curling techniques, hair extensions,  advanced coloring, and freehand fading. Network with some of our 80+ salon and barbershop  partners looking to hire new talent across the country and start thinking about your career after  graduation. 

This stage draws together many of the skills previously learned, using live models,  to give you more confidence and a  more complete understanding of the total role of a hair professional.  

· A recap of all cutting techniques - women and men 

· Advanced color and color correction techniques 

· Cutting and coloring combination 

· Customer care 

· Professional salon etiquette 

· Coloring and technical exam 

· Mock cutting practical exam 

10 WEEKS

In the longest phase of the program, gain more client practice, honing your skills and area  of focus under the guidance of Glassbox educators with our best in the province 1:12 educator: student ratio. 

Possibly the most challenging stage of the Beginners Diploma course which is designed to give  you the time to perfect the skills and utilize the knowledge you have gathered to prepare you for  working in a salon environment. Working on live models morning and afternoon you will hone in on  your craft. ie:  

· Working on your own and using your initiative 

· Working within a time frame 

· Disconnection lecture, an introduction to salon creative work 

· Introduction to advanced layering and graduation 

· Introduction to advanced finishing techniques 

· Employment interview techniques
